Plex updated with new UI, camera roll casting, and new purchasing model
Plex, the popular media server app, has just released a new update for Android. Version 3.9 includes some new features, a revamped user interface and several bug fixes. Plex has also switched over to a single app with an in-app purchasing model for unlocking the full feature list.
The user interface changes apply to both smartphones and tablets, and is designed to give the app a more modern look. As for the new features, Plex now includes the ability to cast your local camera roll to any Plex client or cast enabled device, and now supports also movie extras.
Bug fixes include fixing a crash when sharing with “Add to Plex”, the sign in screen has been adjusted to stop the refresh button from appearing cropped, and there’s a tweak to prevent background artwork from flickering just before playback.
As for the new app purchasing model, Plex allows users to either sign in with a Plex Pass enabled account to access all of the playback features or users can access the app through a one-time purchase. This revamped model only applies to new Android users. The free version of the app is still available, so you can test out the features before you buy.
You can grab the latest version of Plex directly from Google Play.
