Latest Pokémon Go event celebrates the holidays with new water and ice-type monsters
- Pokemon Go’s final event of 2017 kicks off today at 1pm PST
- The holiday-themed event introduces new Pokemon, items, and daily rewards
- The event is set to end on December 25th
Niantic is encouraging Pokémon Go players to get into the holiday spirit with a winter-themed event that introduces all new water and ice-type monsters, and a second chance to catch the series’ mascot, Pikachu, wearing a suitably festive Santa hat.
The holiday event starts today at 1pm PST, at which time you’ll be able to go out and catch even more Pokémon from the Hoenn region. The celebration looks set to end on January 4th, so if you want to grab yourself one of the new monsters you’ll need to act fast!
Niantic has been slowly adding creatures from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire – the third generation of Pokémon games originally made for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance – over the past few months, starting with the Halloween event.
A promotional image released by Niantic (above) suggests Sharpedo, Snorunt, Feebas, Wailmer, Relicanth, and Milotic will all appear in the event, as well as the legendary Pokémon Kyogre, which we assume will be added to the Legendary Raid rotation.
For each day of the event, you’ll receive a single-use Egg Incubator when you spin your first PokéStop. Special item boxes will also be made available in the in-game store. Niantic says these will offer some of the “best deals of the year” on Super Incubators, Lure Modules, and Star Pieces – a new item which increases Stardust gains for half an hour.
Will you be heading out into the cold to catch yourself some new pocket pals? Let us know in the comments.
