Original article: May 15, 2019 at 10:26 a.m. ET: It’s been less than a year since Pokémon Quest became the latest mobile Pokémon title, but today the Pokémon Company announced another new title. Pokémon Rumble Rush trades in idle gameplay for direct control of your Pokémon in top-down beat-em-up style gameplay. This is the fifth game in the Pokémon Rumble series after 2016’s Pokémon Rumble World for the Nintendo 3DS.
Pokémon Rumble Rush is the official release of Pokéland, which was beta tested in Japan back in 2017. Check out some early gameplay footage of that game below, but expect a higher level of polish from the final release.
Essentially, Pokémon Rumble Rush is a mobile version of Pokémon Rumble World, which itself was a freemium game. Mobile devices are a great fit for the series, since they feature simple gameplay loops and cater to short sessions.
For those of you who have never played Pokémon Rumble World, you play as a Mii character in a world filled with toy Pokémon. You control a single Pokémon with a single move in real-time combat. Your Pokémon is plopped down into a small arena filled with enemy Pokémon, facing off against a massive boss Pokémon at the end of the stage.
To keep things interesting, Pokémon Rumble Rush will change the map every two weeks, giving access to new areas with new Pokémon. Complete stages to receive rewards that allow you to upgrade your favorite Pokémon.
As of now, there is no official release date announced for Pokémon Rumble Rush, but the game has already started rolling out in Japan and Australia. The Google Play Store listing is linked below, so check it out and let us know if you’re able to download it. We’ll update this article as more details emerge.
