- PlayStation has revealed the price and release date for the PSVR 2.
- The virtual reality headset will sell for $549.99, €599.99, £529.99, ¥74,980
- It is scheduled for launch on February 22, 2023.
For the last several months, PlayStation has been drip-feeding gamers details about its next-generation virtual reality headset. However, it avoided answering two of the most important questions about the device — the price and release date. But today the company finally answered those questions and more.
Vice President of Hardware and Peripherals, Isabelle Tomatis, took to the PlayStation Blog to announce that the PlayStation VR 2 will launch on February 22, 2023. Tomatis also confirmed that the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller charging station will launch on the same day.
As for the price, it will be a bit more expensive than the $400 the original headset sold for at launch back in 2016. Tomatis revealed that the PSVR 2 will launch at $549.99, €599.99, £529.99, ¥74,980. This includes the PSVR 2 headset, PSVR2 Sense controllers, and stereo headphones. There will also be a bundle that includes a PlayStation Store voucher code for Horizon Call of the Mountain, which will cost $599.99, €649.99, £569.99, ¥79,980.
The charging station, pictured below, will sell separately for $49.99, €49.99, £39.99, ¥5,480.
Although preorders are scheduled to start on November 15, 2022, you’ll be able to register for preorders starting today. The blog notes that for the initial phase of the launch, consumers in the US, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg will only be able to preorder through PlayStation’s online store at direct.playstation.com.
For markets outside of these countries, the company says that the PSVR 2 will be sold at participating retailers and those retailers will provide information on how to preorder.
In addition to this announcement, PlayStation also revealed 11 more games that will be coming to the PSVR 2. The company said earlier this year that there would be more than 20 games ready for the launch of the headset.
