PUBG Mobile is taking two huge steps into the world of eSports after hitting 100 million downloads
- Tencent and PUBG Corp. just announced the Player Well Known Invitational and a new competitive league.
- The PWK Invitational features popular streamers and Youtubers duking it out for chicken dinners.
- The PWK Championship is a new league that’s open to players from six regions.
Today PUBG Mobile announced that it surpassed 100 million downloads in the West (not including China, Japan, and Korea), so what better way to celebrate than two massive eSports events?
First up is the aptly named Player Well Known Invitational, which features 16 popular streamers and Youtubers competing over two days. The event kicks off on August 17, and will be streamed on Twitch, Facebook, and Youtube on the official PUBG Mobile channel.
Big names from several platforms will be present at the PWK Invitational, including Grimmmz, Melonie Mac, Halifax, TSM Viss, STPeach, and Chocotaco. You can vote for your favorite squad leader at the official PWK website, and pick up 1000 free BP for your trouble.
Most of these streamers are more well known for playing PUBG on PC, so it should be interesting to see how their skills translate to the small screen. It’s likely to be a friendly competition, but fans of PUBG Mobile will be watching to see just how “eSports ready” the title really is.
Tencent Games and PUBG Corp. also announced the first Player Well Known Championship, which is a global tournament with Qualifiers, Preliminaries, Regional Finals and World Finals. To participate, you just need to have 1000 social followers and three skilled PUBG Mobile compatriots to fill out your squad.
Few details have been released, but one of the main rewards for the PWK Championship is access to promotional resources for streaming. For content creators who are into PUBG Mobile, this represents a huge opportunity to grow their following.
More details will be released soon about the PWK Championship, so stay tuned. Until then, are you excited for the PWK Invitational? Let us know in the comments!
