We asked, you told us: These are the must-have smart home products of 2019
In each of our Reader’s Choice: Summer Edition surveys so far we’ve had pretty clear winners. For those products that win, it’s a ringing endorsement from our most passionate readers, those early adopters that normal folks typically turn to for advice. The same is true of smart home products, where our three surveys covering different product categories saw very clear frontrunners from close to 10,000 total votes. Let’s get into it.
Best smart speaker or display
It seems like everyone has a Google Home or Amazon Echo in their home these days, but there are new products being launched in this space every day. In this survey, we had two very clear preferences — the JBL Link Bar with Google Assistant (42%) and the Lenovo Smart Clock (20%).
The JBL Link Bar took out the top spot overall as well as on YouTube, while the Lenovo Smart Clock was the clear favorite with our website audience. The answer is clear: if you’re after a new smart speaker or connected soundbar, the JBL Link Bar is the hands-down favorite of Android Authority‘s audience, and if it’s a smart display you’re after, the Lenovo Smart Clock can’t be beaten.
Best smart security product
Smart security may not be the sexiest product category of all time, but it certainly provides some solid peace of mind. In this survey, the site and YouTube audiences agreed: the Ring Door View Cam is by far the most popular smart security product of 2019, securing a massive two-thirds of the overall vote.
With IFA 2019 coming up, we’re sure to see plenty more new smart home products, including smart security announcements, so stay tuned for our IFA coverage to be up to date on all the latest releases.
Best smart light product
Philips dominates the smart light space and for good reason, with some of the most user-friendly and convenient products around. So it was no real surprise to see the new Philips Hue Bluetooth Bulbs take the top spot in this survey. With a commanding 71% of the overall vote, there was little room for uncertainty here: if you want to get into smart lighting, these are the bulbs our audience recommends you start with.
The reason these new Philips Hue bulbs are such a big deal is the presence of Bluetooth. That means you no longer need to buy (or already own) the Hue Bridge hub you normally need to control them. With these new Bluetooth bulbs, you simply connect to the bulbs directly through the Philips Hue app on your phone. It’s a super low barrier to entry for anyone wanting to try out smart lights without committing to buying into the whole smart hub ecosystem.
