TL;DR
  • A source has revealed that the realme GT could be a flagship killer of note in Europe.
  • The source says that it could be the most affordable flagship phone with a Snapdragon 888 SoC.
  • A pulled listing on realme’s website has revealed a €549 price tag.

Update: June 8, 2021 (1:40AM ET): realme has accidentally posted a realme GT listing on its European website (h/t: The Verge), revealing a €549 (~$669) price for the upcoming Snapdragon 888 flagship phone. The listing has since been pulled from the company website, but confirmed a 12GB/256GB variant.

For what it’s worth, the 12GB/256GB model initially launched in China for 3,299 yuan (~$516) earlier this year. So Europeans are looking at a price increase of ~$150. It would be disappointing if the firm didn’t bring the base 8GB/128GB realme GT to global markets, as that would’ve definitely lowered the price barrier for affordable flagships. So here’s hoping we indeed see the base variant.

Original article: June 1, 2021 (7:59 AM ET): Affordable flagship phones running the latest and greatest Snapdragon 888 processor aren’t very common, but it looks like realme will be bringing one such device to Europe later this month.

A trusted company source told Android Authority that the realme GT, which launched in China back in March, will be coming to Europe in mid-June. In case you missed it, the realme GT is equipped with a Snapdragon 888 SoC, a 6.43-inch 120Hz OLED screen, 8GB to 12GB of RAM, and 128GB to 256GB of storage.

A picture obtained by us (see further down the page) also shows 16GB of RAM and 512GB storage, which would be a new storage variant not seen in China. Either way, there’s plenty of power on tap if you value the best performance possible. The rear of the phone also shows CE certification, suggesting that this is indeed a Europe-bound GT.

Realme’s cut-price range-topper is also equipped with a 4,500mAh battery, 65W wired charging, and a headphone port. Photography is handled by a 64MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro sensor. A 16MP selfie snapper is mounted in a punch-hole cutout.

realme GT: A new flagship killer?

The source told us that pricing will be very aggressive for the new flagship, adding that it will have “almost the same price as in China.” The realme GT launched at 2,799 yuan (~$439) in China. Meanwhile, the Iqoo 7 Legend launched in India earlier this year for Rs 39,990 (~$548). If the realme GT’s European price is even ~$50 to ~$100 more than the Chinese price tag, it’ll still be cheaper than one of the cheapest Snapdragon 888 phones outside China.

realme confirmed last month that the Chinese version of the realme GT has access to the Android 12 beta, adding that the global variant will get access when the phone launches outside China. Our source reiterated this info, adding that global users will be able to open the box and download the beta from launch day (no signup process needed).
