Although realme is a relative newcomer to the Android scene, the Chinese manufacturer has already managed to gain quite the popularity thanks its affordable flagship killers. Now, to keep up with the competition and with current trends, the company has announced that a 5G successor of the realme X2 Pro is in the works with the realme X50 5G.

The announcement came in the form of a weibo post by realme CMO Xu Qi Chase (h/t: GSMArena). In the photo accompanying it, we can see an outline of the new flagship. The realme X50 5G seems to have a dual punch-hole selfie camera similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus. This would make it not only the company’s first 5G phone, but the first to adopt the punch hole camera as well. The only other information we have about the device is that it will reportedly work both on standalone and non-standalone 5G networks, and that it will come with Android 10 and ColorOS 7 on board.

If you are confused about the name of the new realme flagship, however, Xu Qi Chase explained the reasoning behind the jump from X2 to X50. According to the realme CMO, the five stands for the introduction of 5G, while the zero supposedly signifies a new beginning and the upcoming 2020 leap year.

This announcement by realme comes shortly after news of Xiaomi preparing to release a new wave of cheap 5G phones in the near future. The X50 5G is also positioned as direct challenger to the Redmi K30, which will also pack a dual punch-hole camera and 5G.

realme has not revealed when we can expect the X50 5G, nor any specs for the moment. What would you like to see on the realme X50 5G? Let us know in the comments below.
