Original article, November 29, 2018 (11:44PM EST): We have waited six long years for a sequel to Plague Inc., but the waiting will finally soon come to an end with today’s announcement of Rebel Inc.
2012’s Plague Inc. lets you unleash various viruses into the world and spread them into as many countries as possible. As dark as that premise sounds, the 50 million installs from the Play Store mean that the game clearly struck a chord with many players.
According to Ndemic Creations, Rebel Inc. deals much less with a viral outbreak and more with what happens when a war ends. Rebel Inc. is described as a “political/military simulation” that charges you with balancing “military and civilian priorities to win the hearts and minds of the people, whilst also stopping insurgents from seizing power.”
Ndemic Creations also said Rebel Inc. features “intelligent strategic and tactical AI,” along with “narrative algorithms shaped by your decisions.” Players will also have six governors with unique abilities to pick from.
Rebel Inc. launches on iOS Thursday, December 8 for $1.99. The game will be available on Android sometime next year presumably for the same $1.99 price. Regardless of the platform, Rebel Inc. features in-app payments that let you unlock the map, governors, and cheats. Ndemic Creations said you can unlock everything by playing the game normally.
As for Plague Inc., Ndemic Creations will continue development on the game and eventually issue “major updates.” The studio also plans to release an expansion to Plague Inc: The Board Game sometime next year.
