Red Dead Redemption 2 gets a companion app: here's what it does (Updated: Download it now!)
Update, October 28, 2018 (12:40AM EST): The Red Dead Redemption 2 companion app is now available. The app is a free download and weighs in around 16MB. Your device must run at least Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the app to work.
You can download the app at the link below.
With Red Dead Redemption 2 set to envelop everything about your life in a few days, developer Rockstar Games announced a companion app that will be available alongside the upcoming game.
The app basically gives you a second-screen experience while you play Red Dead Redemption 2 on either your Xbox One or PlayStation 4. For example, you can view the game’s world map and mark waypoints and areas of interest as you explore.
The app also provides real-time information on main character Arthur Morgan’s health, stamina, and other stats. Because the information would be on a different screen, you can play the game without a HUD for improved immersion.
As a nice bonus, you can also look through Arthur’s in-game journal, which will automatically update with new entries and illustrations as you make your way through the game. Finally, the app lets you track your stats through Social Club, read through the full digital game manual, and even purchase the digital version of the official game guide.
As extra as the Red Dead Redemption 2 app sounds, it is far from Rockstar’s first mobile app. The company released many of its Grand Theft Auto games for mobile, along with Bully: Anniversary Edition, Max Payne, Grand Theft Auto: iFruit, and the official manual for Grand Theft Auto V.
Rockstar said the Red Dead Redemption 2 companion app will be available for Android and iOS starting this Friday, October 26. That is the same day when the game itself launches for Microsoft’s and Sony’s current-gen consoles. There is some hope that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be available on PC as well, though Rockstar has yet to make any announcement on that end.
