REDMAGIC 7 launched globally: This gaming phone has all the cooling solutions
Nubia’s REDMAGIC series of gaming phones has been around since about 2018, being part of the wave of gaming smartphones that debuted after the landmark Razer Phone. We’re now up to the REDMAGIC 7, which launched in China a week ago.
We, fortunately, didn’t have to wait long, as the company just launched the REDMAGIC 7 globally. So what are you getting, then?
For one, the REDMAGIC 7 is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 flagship processor. This is Qualcomm’s top-end SoC for 2022, and while CPU performance is a mild upgrade over last year’s chipset at best, the GPU sees a massive upgrade.

nubia is also keeping the chipset cool with a built-in fan and its ICE 8.0 cooling system (including vapor chamber cooling and a graphite sheet). In fact, the firm claims that heat dissipation and absorption have increased by 400 times compared to the REDMAGIC 6.
It wouldn’t be a gaming device without some form of inputs, so we’re glad to see the nubia device offering a pair of capacitive shoulder buttons. We would’ve liked to see the company take a page out of Redmi/Poco’s book and offer pop-up physical triggers, though.
What else should you expect?
The REDMAGIC 7 also ships with a 6.8-inch FHD+ 165Hz OLED panel and a 4,500mAh battery with 65W charging. The latter figure is still fast, but it is a reduction in wattage compared to the Chinese model’s 120W charging.
REDMAGIC phones aren’t known for their camera credentials and the REDMAGIC 7 is no different. Expect a 64MP+8MP+2MP triple rear camera system as well as an 8MP selfie shooter.
Other notable specs include a 3.5mm port, Bluetooth 5.2, an under-display fingerprint sensor, and REDMAGIC OS 5.0 atop Android 12.
REDMAGIC 7 price and availability
The REDMAGIC 7 starts at $629/€629/£529 for the 12GB/128GB version, $729/€729/£619 for the 16GB/256GB model, and $799/€799/£679 for the 18GB/256GB option. The cheapest version is only available in Obsidian Black, the middle-tier offering is only available in a Pulsar colorway, and the top-end model is only available in a Supernova color scheme.
Expect to find the phone on the REDMAGIC website from March 10, with availability in Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, North America, and the Middle East.
Of course, the REDMAGIC 7 was joined by the REDMAGIC 7 Pro in China. This device sports an under-display selfie camera, a bigger battery, and faster charging. But nubia says the Pro variant will only come to global markets in Q2 2022.
