Redmi K40 series announced: Redmi's affordable flagships are here
The Redmi K series has quickly established itself as one of the best bang for buck high-end phone families out there, spanning mid-range and flagship devices. Now, Redmi has finally announced the K40 series, and we’re actually looking at three devices in the family.
We’ve got the Redmi K40, K40 Pro, and K40 Pro Plus, and the three phones share a few features in common. For one, all three devices are equipped with a 6.67-inch 120Hz FHD+ OLED screen (HDR10+), with Redmi saying the K40 Pro series screen received an A+ rating from testing firm DisplayMate.
All of the phones are also equipped with a 4,520mAh battery, 33W wired charging (hitting 100% in 52 minutes) and a 20MP selfie camera in a center-mounted punch-hole cutout. Other shared features include three microphones for audio zoom capabilities, dual stereo speakers, NFC, an IR blaster, and IP53 splash resistance.
All three phones also share the same color options, namely black, white, and Fantasy.

Redmi K40 Pro and Pro Plus
The Redmi K40 Pro and Pro Plus are a step above the standard K40 by virtue of offering a Snapdragon 888 processor. So those wanting the best possible performance should look at these variants. Both phones also have Wi-Fi 6E connectivity as opposed to the standard model’s Wi-Fi 6 support.
The K40 Pro Plus is the top dog otherwise though, serving up a 108MP triple rear camera setup. Expect a 108MP primary camera (Isocell Bright HM2) capable of nona-binning, an 8MP ultra-wide lens (119 degree field of view), and a 5MP telephoto macro shooter (50mm equivalent). The K40 Pro sees the 108MP sensor swapped out in favor of a 64MP main camera (IMX686).
What about the Redmi K40?
The vanilla Redmi K40 differs from the Pro variants by offering a Snapdragon 870 chipset, which is essentially last year’s Snapdragon 865 Plus with a clock speed boost (a Snapdragon 865 Plus Plus, you could say). It’s not the latest and greatest high-end SoC, but it should deliver plenty of power for gamers, emulation fans, and those simply wanting a smooth experience.
This base phone also differs from the Pro variants in the camera field, offering a 48MP main camera (IMX582) in lieu of a 64MP or 108MP sensor seen on the Pro options. Otherwise, the rest of the camera setup is the same, featuring an 8MP ultra-wide snapper and a 5MP telephoto macro lens.
Redmi K40 series pricing
Consumers in China will be paying 3,699 yuan (~$573) for the Redmi K40 Pro Plus, which is only available in a 12GB/256GB model. Don’t want to spend that much money? Then the Redmi K40 Pro starts at 2,799 yuan (~$434) for the 6GB/128GB option, 2,999 yuan (~$465) for the 8GB/128GB variant, and 3,299 yuan (~$511) for the 8GB/256GB version.
Meanwhile, the standard Redmi K40 will set you back 1,999 yuan (~$310) for the 6GB/128GB model, 2,199 yuan (~$341) for the 8GB/128GB variant, 2,499 yuan (~$387) for the 8GB/256GB tier, and 2,499 yuan (~$387) for the 12GB/256GB device. The latter price is likely a promotional price as the company originally stated that this model will retail for 2,699 yuan (~$418).
