It's official: The Redmi Note 8 2021 is coming
- Xiaomi has revealed that the Redmi Note 8 2021 is coming.
- Rumors point to a phone with a Helio G85 chipset, 120Hz LCD screen, and more.
The Redmi Note series is Xiaomi’s bread and butter, shipping loads of units since the first device launched back in 2014. One of the most popular devices in this range is the Redmi Note 8, and Xiaomi has now officially confirmed that the Redmi Note 8 2021 is coming.
Xiaomi made the announcement on Twitter after claiming that the Redmi Note 8 has sold 25 million units globally to date. It’s unclear if this figure includes both the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro or only the vanilla model. Check out a screenshot of the post below.
Nevertheless, we’ve already heard a few rumors regarding the Redmi Note 8 2021. The XiaomiUI Telegram group previously claimed that the device would offer a 120Hz IPS LCD screen, a MediaTek Helio G85 processor (in line with the Redmi Note 9), a 4,000mAh battery, and 22.5W charging. The group also expects the new phone to pack a 48MP quad-camera setup (main, ultra-wide, tele-macro, depth).
The Note 8 2021 also seems to have appeared on the Bluetooth SIG website, featuring the model number M1908C3JGG, MIUI 12 or higher, and Bluetooth 5.2.
There’s no word on what the phone will look like though, but retaining the same design could theoretically lead to lower manufacturing costs and therefore a more attractive price. It wouldn’t be the first time a manufacturer has updated a popular model for a new year, as we’ve previously seen HUAWEI do this with its P20 Lite phones. But the updated HUAWEI phones offered a tweaked design as well.
