RedmiBook 14 announced: How much laptop do you get for $580?
We’ve known for a while now that Xiaomi’s Redmi sub-brand was readying its first laptop, and the firm has finally taken the wraps off the device at its Redmi K20 event in China.
The RedmiBook 14 isn’t going to wow you in terms of aesthetics, looking like a Macbook Air if anything. But the brand’s first laptop, which weighs in at 1.5 kilograms (3.3 pounds), brings some respectable core features nonetheless.
Redmi’s notebook offers an eighth generation Intel Core i5 (8265U) or Core i7 (8565U) processor, 8GB of RAM, and a 256GB or 512GB solid state drive (SSD). The laptop also delivers a 14-inch full HD screen (1,920 x 1,080).
Other notable RedmiBook 14 specs include a GeForce MX250 GPU, two USB 3.0 ports, a USB 2.0 port, a 3.5mm input, an HDMI port (HDMI 1.4), and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. Don’t expect a USB-C port here though.
Xiaomi’s sub-brand says its laptop should last up to 10 hours when playing video locally, up to seven hours when streaming video, and up to 11 hours when browsing the web. The firm is also claiming that you only need 35 minutes of charging to go from zero to 50 percent battery capacity.
The RedmiBook 14 starts at 3,999 yuan (~$578) for the Core i5/256GB SSD model. Need more grunt? Then you can opt for the Core i5/512GB model for 4,299 yuan (~$622), or the Core i7/512GB variant for 4,999 yuan (~$723).
