TL;DR
  • reMarkable has rolled out a new update for its E-Ink tablets.
  • The update adds the ability to capture and copy on-screen content as images by circling it.
  • The update also adds new pen colors, allows users to grab images from the cloud, and more.

If you’re a user of one of reMarkable’s E-Ink tablets, you probably won’t want to hold off on updating it. The latest update contains some interesting features that will make life a little easier.

The Norwegian tablet maker has released a new update today. In the release notes, the company lists several new features you can take advantage of. One of the most notable additions is a new capture tool.

In what sounds like a riff on Google’s circle to search feature, reMarkable’s new capture tool lets you circle anything that’s on your screen. However, instead of providing search results, the tool captures and copies whatever you circle as an image. So you’ll be able to do things like copy visuals from a PDF and paste them into your notes. You’ll also be able to move the images around and transfer them between notebooks.

To activate the feature, all you’ll need to do is tap on Capture from the Selection Tool foldout in the toolbar. And you don’t have to draw a circle if you don’t want to, as any shape will do.

The other features and improvements included in this update are:

  • New pen colors: You’ll now be able to choose between green, yellow, cyan, and magenta. The company also optimized the gray shades to make it easier to tell them apart.
  • Grab images from the cloud: You can now import JPG and PNG files from Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive through the Convert to Notebook tool.
  • EPUB reading refresh: The UI has been redesigned, formatting has been improved, and language support has been expanded.
  • Share menu refinements: The share button is now in the main toolbar and the share menu has been streamlined.
  • Drag and drop in the Web App: You can now drag and drop files in the Web App.
