Report: Samsung Galaxy Note 7 (Note 6) may launch around August 2nd
Samsung’s sales have been swimming thanks to the success of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. The pair of products took everything that was good about last year’s redesigned flagships and refined them with much of the missing mentionables found in the Galaxy S5, namely microSD support and waterproofing.
All eyes are now focused on the next big thing, notably the Note. The next phone in the series, which may skip the next number to be branded the Galaxy Note 7, is rumored to be launching earlier than last year’s offering, which itself was earlier than the year before it. Veteran leaker Evan Blass has Tweeted the following to lend more credibility to the date to state:
Exactly two months would mean the Galaxy Note 7 would be unveiled on August 2nd, which is a Tuesday. As Blass mentions “almost exactly” it’s likely to be a day or two off, but nonetheless the key is probably somewhere in the first week of the month. As a result, in theory the new Note could be in stores before the anniversary of the Galaxy Note 5’s launch event from August 13th last year.
Notes on the Note
Whereas last year saw the release of a large screen Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, this year is an almost sure fire no show given the already ample size of the standard Galaxy S7 Edge. Instead it’s believed that Samsung will announce a Galaxy Note Edge variant. Provided that rumor pans out the next logical question will be the nature of the slanted screen: will it be more productive like the original Galaxy Note Edge, or will it be of a more design-specific nature like the Galaxy S7 Edge.
Rounding out the rumors, the phone is said to include 6GB of RAM, USB Type C, a dual rear camera set-up, and waterproofing. This is in addition to more standard spec expectations such as the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC and microSD support.
