No surprise: Samsung confirms new foldables are coming later this year
- Samsung has confirmed that it will launch a new generation of foldables in H2 2022.
- The company said it’s also trying to ensure adequate supply of parts for the new devices.
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 are its latest and greatest foldable phones right now, bringing much tougher displays, IPX8 water resistance for the first time in foldables, and S Pen support on the Fold model.
We all expect the company to launch a new generation later in 2022, and the company has now officially confirmed this in its Q1 2022 earnings call (h/t: Yonhap News).
“We are currently all hands on deck regarding preparing the new foldable model scheduled for launch in the second half,” a Samsung representative said during the call.
Samsung mobile business vice-president Kim Sung-koo added that the company wants to make foldable phones another “main column next to the Galaxy S series within our business.” The company will also focus on making sure it isn’t affected by supply chain woes when the new foldables are launched:
For the new foldable models, we will thoroughly prepare to ensure seamless supply of key parts so we can fully address market opportunities and maximize sales from the moment they hit the market.
Either way, it’s no surprise to hear that the company is officially working on new devices, having released foldables every year since 2019. Samsung’s Z Flip 3 came in at a pretty reasonable $999 at launch while the Galaxy Z Fold 3 retailed for $1,800, so here’s hoping the Galaxy Z Fold 4 in particular sees a price cut.
