Samsung might give you dark-themed icons to go with dark mode
Aug 10, 2026 — 3:58 PM ET

- Samsung could introduce dark theme icons in One UI 9.5.
- References to a dark theme icon option were spotted in a recent version of the Nearby Device app.
Samsung is going full steam ahead with its next major update. Last week, a build for One UI 9.5 was spotted on Samsung’s test servers. Fast forward a few days, and the topic of One UI 9.5 is coming up once again. This time, it’s for a feature that could be included in the rollout.
According to SammyGuru, version 1.3.07.3791 of the Nearby Device app contains references to a dark theme icon option. This option would automatically swap out the lighter background of the icon for a darker one. As a result, this would help deliver a more consistent look to your home screen when dark mode is enabled.
Samsung was last spotted testing dark-themed icons in One UI 8.5. However, the option is not currently available for One UI 9. It’s suspected that this feature could make its debut with the rollout of One UI 9.5.
There is no confirmed date for when Samsung will release One UI 9.5. Given that the company still has its hands full with rolling out One UI 9, don’t expect 9.5 to arrive any time soon. For those who prefer using dark mode, dark-themed icons would be a nice-to-have.
