Samsung and de GRISOGONO join forces to craft a luxurious smartwatch
The company de GRISOGONO has spent the last twenty years making themselves synonymous with luxury wrist-borne apparel. The company has been in the watch business long enough to know what’s up, and they never cut corners when it comes to quality. That’s why we’re excited to see this seasoned watchmaker going arm in arm with Samsung to create a seriously elegant top-dollar smartwatch.
The Samsung Gear S2 by de GRISOGONO is a statement of status, style, and perhaps even opulence. Framed in molded gold and studded with a trove of precious jewels, the smartwatch marks an elegant marriage between old-school class and new-tech sass. What’s more, Samsung alleges that this product is not simply the Gear S2 with diamonds and precious metal clapped to the chassis. Rather, it is a co-creation between the two companies that “blends glamour and artistry.”
The device has a 1.2-inch circular Super AMOLED display and will debut at Baselworld 2016. We don’t have any specifics on the pricing yet, but we don’t think you’ll be able to pick up this rock-studded wrist royale with chump change. It remains to be seen whether or not luxury smartwatches will find a solid enough base. Historically, high-end watches have been prized because of their craftsmanship and durability. When you bought a Rolex, you basically expected to die with that Rolex. However, smartwatches are a different animal entirely. Just like smartphones, you can expect to swap out your piece of wearable tech every two to three years. It’s not certain yet whether enough users will find the lux alluring enough when the device’s guts will be rendered outdated in just a few months.
