Over the last decade, IP ratings have become increasingly common on mobile devices. The IP67 rating representing waterproofing is typically the most ideal rating to see on a device; however, that testing process can be expensive and add to the final cost. As such, IP ratings generally aren’t seen on many budget-oriented devices. So, is the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G waterproof?

QUICK ANSWER

No, the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G is not waterproof and has no IP rating.

No. As with most of the Samsung Galaxy A-series of budget phones, the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G has no IP rating for dust or water resistance. As a result, you must be slightly more careful with your device when handling it near bodies of water.

Why doesn’t the Galaxy A14 5G have an IP rating?

Though it has no IP rating, the device may still be adequately resistant to a small amount of water and dust. Having a device undergo the extensive testing process necessary to secure an official IP rating takes extra time, effort, and money. When working with a budget-oriented device, the ends typically don’t justify the means — and that process is bypassed.

Are there any phones in the same price range with an IP rating?

If you want a waterproof phone, you must look for a device that has secured an IP67 rating. At this price point, the pickings are incredibly slim. However, several devices from Motorola have IP52 ratings for splash resistance.

These devices are not entirely waterproof. Do not try to submerge them in deeper bodies of water. However, they have passed the IP tests for splash resistance, meaning they can handle some light water.

The Moto G 5G (2022) is the first phone on the shortlist. It sports the exact same processor as the Galaxy A14 5G — the Dimensity 700 from MediaTek. It performs similarly due to its hardware similarities, but it has that added IP52 rating. If that’s important for you, this is probably the right alternative.

Another similarly-priced device with an IP rating would be Motorola’s Moto G Power (2022). Aside from the IP52 rating, the main difference from the A14 5G would be the MediaTek Helio G37 processor within — as well as the more limited storage options. Value-wise, this device isn’t the most compelling option; however, the water-repellant coating may be enough to sway consumers in its direction.

This is the most expensive of today’s Galaxy A14 5G alternatives. However, the Moto G Stylus 5G (2022) comes with a stylus and a slightly more powerful Snapdragon 695 5G processor. Aside from those two differences and the IP52 rating, there isn’t a whole lot differentiating the Moto G Stylus from the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G.
