Samsung Galaxy Note 10 codename hints at further S Pen improvements

Samsung only unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 last month, but we already have the first leak about the Samsung Galaxy Note 10. According to the Korean economic publication The Bell, Samsung has begun developing the phone and has given it the codename “Da Vinci.”

Codenames are internal names given to smartphones during development. While they don’t generally tell us a whole lot about the phone, The Bell speculates that by naming the device after a famous painter, Samsung could be hinting at plans to improve the phone’s S Pen.
This would make sense. The S Pen’s new Bluetooth functionality is one of the main features of the Galaxy Note 9. Also, The Bell quotes a previous statement from Samsung mobile CEO DJ Koh where he said the company has a 2-3-year roadmap for the S Pen’s development.
However, in many cases, Samsung uses codenames that don’t hint at the phone’s features. For example, the Galaxy S9 was thought to have been codenamed “Project Star,” while the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8 were reportedly known as “Project Lucky” and “Project Dream” respectively.
The Bell’s report does, however, contain a quote from a parts industry source that gives us a hint about the possible design of the device. The source says that, while they have only seen a small number of sample parts, the shape of these parts suggests that the Galaxy Note 10 will, unsurprisingly, have an Infinity Display and no home button. Assuming the source is correct, this rules out Samsung making the Note 10 a foldable phone.
2019 is shaping up to be a big year for Samsung. As well, as the Galaxy Note 10, the company is expected to release its first ever foldable phone and three versions of the Samsung Galaxy S10, including at least one with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Samsung is also thought to be working on a 5G phone.
On top of this, we expect Samsung to shake up its mid-range lineup in an attempt to boost the competitivity of its non-flagship phones. According to Samsung mobile CEO DJ Koh, this could see innovative features making their way to mid-range phones even before flagships.
