Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus vs OnePlus 7 Pro: Which is right for you?

The new Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus may be the most advanced handset of the Note series ever launched. But how does this big, beastly phone compare to OnePlus’ latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 7 Pro? Find out in our Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus vs OnePlus 7 Pro comparison.

Design

The Galaxy Note 10 Plus has a huge screen-to-body ratio, thanks to having almost no bezels along with its punch-hole selfie camera, found in the top-center of the screen. The OnePlus 7 Pro actually has the Note 10 Plus beat in this regard, as there’s no front-facing camera visible at all on the display. Instead, the OnePlus 7 Pro embeds the camera inside its body, and it pops up when needed. Also, one of the 7 Pro’s two speakers is placed on top, in between the phone’s metal frame and glass display.

The OnePlus 7 Pro also has corners with more noticeable curves than the Note 10 Plus, which still retains more of a straight edge shape to its body. However, the Note 10 Plus does have its front glass material curve a bit more over the side of the display compared to earlier Note models.

Ultimately, it’s hard to choose the winner here. Both are incredible looking devices.

Display

The Note 10 Plus has a  6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O display with a resolution of 3,040 x 1,440.  The OnePlus 7 Pro’s display is a bit smaller at 6.67-inches, but it uses an AMOLED screen with a 3,120 x 1,440 resolution. More importantly, the OnePlus 7 Pro display refresh rate goes up to 90Hz, which means apps and games that support it should run smoother than the 60Hz supported on the Note 10 Plus screen.

It’s worth noting that both panels are made by Samsung, so whichever you choose, you’ll be in for one of the best displays on the market, too.

Hardware

The Note 10 Plus uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor in the U.S. version and Samsung’s own Exynos 9825 chip for international markets. The Note 10 Plus has a massive 12GB of RAM and onboard storage options of either 256 or 512GB. It even comes with a microSD card slot for adding even more storage. The OnePlus 7 Pro also has the Snapdragon 855 chip, and it has RAM options of either 8 or 12GB. The phone has onboard storage options of 128GB or 256GB, but there is no microSD card slot.

Both the Note 10 Plus and OnePlus 7 Pro use UFS 3.0 storage, which means you should get faster loading times for your apps.

Both phones have an in-display fingerprint sensor, although the Note 10 Plus uses an ultrasonic sensor compared to the optical one on the OnePlus 7 Pro. Neither of these phones have a headphone jack, but both have stereo speakers.

The OnePlus 7 Pro has a 4,000mAh battery, compared to the larger 4,300mAh battery on the Note 10 Plus. We noted in our full OnePlus 7 Pro review that the device’s 90Hz display tends to suck up much more battery than a standard 60Hz display, so do keep that in mind. However, OnePlus provides an option to bump the refresh rate down to 60Hz, so you do have the option to save some battery life if you’d like.

The OnePlus 7 Pro supports the company’s own Warp Charge 30 tech, which allows the battery to be charged up quickly at 30 watts. The Note 10 Plus supports 45W charging, but doesn’t include it out of the box; you will need to buy an optional Superfast Charge adapter to get the faster speeds. The Note 10 Plus also supports Qi wireless charging, and Samsung’s own Wireless Powershare so you can wirelessly charge other supported smartphones and devices with the phone. Sadly, there’s no wireless charging support for the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Once again, the Note 10 Pro’s biggest standout feature is its S-Pen stylus. This time around, it adds features like Air Actions, which allows apps that support it to be controlled with gestures via the S-Pen. Samsung even added a way for handwritten notes on the phone to be converted into text. Obviously, the OnePlus 7 Pro has no such embedded stylus.

Camera

The Note 10 Plus has four rear cameras: an ultra-wide 16MP sensor (f/2.2) with a 123-degree field-of-view, a wide-angle 12MP camera (f/1.5-f/2.4, OIS), a 12MP telephoto lens (f/2.1, OIS), and a VGA DepthVision camera (f/1.4). It also has a single 10MP front-facing selfie camera. The OnePlus 7 Pro has three cameras, including a big 48MP main sensor (f/1.6), a wide-angle 16MP camera (f/2.2), and an 8MP telephoto lens ( f/2.2). The pop-up selfie camera is 16MP.

On the surface, the numbers show the OnePlus 7 Pro’s camera setup might be superior to the Note 10 Plus, but in practice, the images taken with the OnePlus phone have not been all that impressive. We will have to see in our Note 10 Plus review if Samsung’s cameras turn out better pictures, but to be frank, it probably does — the Note 10 Plus has a similar camera setup to the Galaxy S10 Plus, which is great in many photo-taking scenarios.

Pricing

The OnePlus 7 Pro certainly has the Note 10 Plus beat in terms of price. The most expensive OnePlus 7 Pro model, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, costs just $749. The starting price for the Note 10 Plus, with the same RAM and storage numbers, is much higher at $1,099.

Just in terms of pricing, there’s really no comparison. The OnePlus 7 Pro beats the Note 10 Plus hands-down. If you choose the OnePlus 7 Pro, you’re getting some fantastic features like a 90Hz display, faster charging out of the box, and a pop-up selfie camera.

On the other hand, the Note 10 Plus also has features the OnePlus phone lacks, including support for wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, a better camera setup, and, of course, the S-Pen.

However, if you want to save a few hundred dollars for a phone that’s powerful and includes lots of great features (and if you don’t care as much about photos or expandable storage), we’d recommend the OnePlus 7 Pro.
