ArmadilloTek screen protectors won't work with Galaxy S10 fingerprint scanner
Although Samsung has yet to make a formal announcement on the matter, it’s an extremely safe bet that the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus will both feature an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor.
ArmadilloTek — a highly-rated manufacturer of smartphone cases — admitted recently that its own Vanguard screen protectors won’t work on the Galaxy S10 due to this new technology. That could mean bad news for those Android users who keep a screen protector on their devices.
In a tweet on the matter, ArmadilloTek said it has already had access to a real-life version of the Galaxy S10 in order to test its protectors, and they don’t work:
We have tested our cases on real #GalaxyS10 phones. The in-screen fingerprint does not support screen protector. So our vanguard will have no built in screen protector— Armadillotek (@armadillotek) January 16, 2019
While this may be disappointing to ArmadilloTek fans, it should be noted that this is just one company’s take on the matter. It should also be noted that the Vanguard series from ArmadilloTek uses very heavy cases and very thick protectors to give phones full protection. Therefore, more basic screen protectors might have no issue.
The cheaper model of the Samsung Galaxy S10 — colloquially referred to as the Galaxy S10 Lite until Samsung announces the real name — likely won’t have this problem, as we expect that variant to have a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
What do you think? Do you usually put your phone into heavy duty cases like the ArmadilloTek Vanguard and thus would shy away from buying the Galaxy S10? Or does this news not concern you or affect your intent to buy? Let us know your opinions in the comments!
