New leak shows more reasonable rear camera setup on the Galaxy S11 Plus
The Samsung Galaxy S11 series is shaping up to be a photography powerhouse. The camera setup on the phones is especially making headlines thanks to rumors of a 108MP sensor, 5x optical zoom, and 8K video recording capabilities.
We’ve previously seen multiple renders showing the cameras on the three Galaxy S11 phones. Now, a new Galaxy S11 Plus leak has landed on the twitterverse. Posted by tipster Ice Universe, the leaked image claims to shows part of the S11 Plus’ rear camera setup.
This is the real Galaxy S11+ camera. On the left is the ultra-wide-angle, main camera, and periscope zoom lens. I don’t know the exact distribution on the right. It is expected to include flash and ToF. pic.twitter.com/98exPMSqgf— Ice universe (@UniverseIce) December 16, 2019
Only one half of the phone’s rear camera housing is visible in the image. Contrary to the first batch of renders, this new image shows a much more organised sensor setup.
Vertically aligned triple cameras are visible on the left side of the rectangular camera enclosure. Ice Universe claims that the three visible sensors include an ultra-wide-angle lens, the main camera, and a periscope zoom lens.
The tipster says he doesn’t know the exact distribution of sensors on the right side. However, he suggests that it might include a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor and a flash.
What’s different from previous renders?
If accurate, the placement of the Galaxy S11 Plus’ primary cameras look similar to the previously rumored Galaxy S11 and S11e.
Newer Galaxy S11e and Galaxy S11 renders/OnLeaks
Previous renders of the Galaxy S11 Plus featured five rear camera sensors arranged in the shape of an ‘X’. At the time, we wondered why Samsung would opt for such a weird camera design on the S11 Plus compared to the S11 and S11e. It’s possible the older renders got it wrong. Then again, the other side of this new image could also tell a whole different story.
Previous Galaxy S11 Plus leak
As things stand now, it looks like the Galaxy S11 Plus would likely come with a quad-camera setup. The main camera is expected to be Samsung’s own 108MP sensor. A telephoto lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 3D ToF sensor could make up the rest of the camera system. We’ve not heard any rumors regarding what the supposed fifth camera so we’ll stick with the quad-cam prediction for now.
