Rumors suggest Samsung Galaxy S21 FE could be a Note 20 follow-up, but how?
- The rumored Samsung Galaxy S21 FE could be a “follow-up” to last year’s Galaxy Note 20, not the Galaxy S20 FE.
- This is according to tipster Evan Blass.
- It’s unclear if this means the phone will gain more Note features or merely plug a gap in Samsung’s offerings.
Samsung’s expected to launch a gaggle of new devices later this year, including the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3. However, one device may be of prime interest to Galaxy Note owners looking to upgrade. Per a tweet by reliable tipster Evan Blass, the rumored Galaxy S21 FE may be positioned as a “follow-up” to last year’s Galaxy Note 20, not the Galaxy S20 FE.
This makes sense as Note devices usually launch in August. However, the FE has become a traditional brace for the Galaxy S line, not the Note series.
While Samsung had launched both Galaxy S and Note flagships in previous years, it confirmed the latter would not debut this year. This has provided room for a potential stand-in. The likely candidate to fill this role is now seemingly the Galaxy S21 FE.
What does this mean for Note owners?
So if the Galaxy S21 FE is a Note 20 follow-up, what does this mean for its features and design? Well, leaked images showcase the S21 FE as a shadow of the Galaxy S21 series. If Samsung were to position the S21 FE as a Note replacement, we’d at least expect stylus support and some visual similarities. There’s no indication of this being the case.
Of course, the Galaxy S21 FE could merely be taking up a more prominent role in Samsung’s lineup due to 2021’s constraints. Samsung confirmed the Galaxy Note would return in 2022, too. There’s little chance the Galaxy S FE line will be a long-running replacement for the Note series.
Finally, it’s also worth noting that the Galaxy S21 FE moniker has yet to be confirmed. Although the name did appear on an official Samsung webpage, the company may decide to use another name before launch. Of course, Samsung first debuted the FE nameplate on a Galaxy Note device.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how Samsung might shuffle around its products in the second half of the year. Rumors suggest Samsung will hold a launch event on August 19, so all should become clearer in the coming months.
