The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S8 are getting surprise updates
- Samsung is reportedly pushing an update to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8 phones.
- The updates seem to address GPS issues on these devices.
Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8 series both reached end-of-life status a while ago, meaning they’ve stopped receiving software updates. However, it looks like the Korean manufacturer has decided to offer one more update to these devices.
Galaxy Club reports (h/t: SamMobile) that the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S8 phones are both receiving updates to address GPS stability. More specifically, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge update has firmware version G93*FXXU8EVG3 and it weighs in at 31MB. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus update has firmware version G95*FXXUCDVG4 and weighs in at 420MB.

Unfortunately, the update doesn’t bring a new security patch. So those hoping for anything more substantial will be disappointed. But it’s still great to see Samsung addressing issues with devices from 2016 and 2017.
Galaxy Club also claims that Samsung is working on a similar update for Galaxy S6, just in case you’re still rocking that 2015 flagship after all this time.
