Uhh, the Samsung Galaxy S8 just won't stop getting updates
- The Samsung Galaxy S8 is now receiving the November 2021 security patch.
- This is the second update the phone has received after its supposed end-of-life.
- This might be the last one it gets, but who knows at this point?
After a certain amount of time, Samsung phones stop receiving updates. Recently, Samsung has extended its update promise to three years of upgrades and four years of patches, but that extension only applies to phones from 2019 or later.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 came out in 2017, so it clearly falls outside of that window. Therefore, we expected it to have stopped receiving updates by now. Today, though, the phone started receiving the November 2021 security patch (via SamMobile).

This is the second time the phone’s received an unexpected update. In July of this year, it also received a new security patch. This flies against Samsung’s own listing of supported phones, which does not feature the Galaxy S8 series.
We have no idea why Samsung keeps updating this phone, but we certainly aren’t complaining. In reality, this should be a very normal occurrence, but clearly, that’s not the case.
Regardless, if you own a Samsung Galaxy S8, you should start checking for updates. The rollout is confirmed in France right now but should make it out to other countries over the next few days and weeks.
