Samsung Galaxy Z Flip hands on half unfolded from front

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is the company’s second ever foldable phone, but it certainly stands apart from the Galaxy Fold.

Samsung’s first foldable offered a smartphone screen on the outside and unfolded to reveal a tablet display on the inside. But this new device is a clamshell foldable like feature phones of yore, albeit with one long foldable display rather than a keypad on the bottom half.

Is the new foldable more than just a slick design though? We’ve got you covered with a look at the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip specs.

Unlike the Samsung Galaxy S20 series, the Galaxy Z Flip doesn’t have the latest and greatest internal specifications. Don’t get us wrong, you’re still getting a capable phone, but it has more in common with the Samsung Galaxy S10e than the latest devices.

Samsung’s second foldable packs a Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of fixed UFS 3.0 storage.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip specs also include a 3,300mAh battery that’s slightly bigger than the Galaxy S10e’s 3,100mAh pack. You’re also getting 15W wired and 9W wireless charging here.

The S10e comparisons don’t end with the battery though, as the Galaxy Z Flip sports a dual rear camera pairing too (12MP+12MP ultra-wide). Samsung is sticking with a 10MP selfie camera on the foldable, in line with last year’s phones.

The final feature shared with the S10e is the side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and that’s because the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has a 6.7-inch foldable OLED screen (FHD+). It seems like in-display fingerprint sensors for foldable displays are still some time away. Close the device and a 1.1-inch OLED panel on the outside will alert you to incoming calls and other notifications.

The Galaxy Z Flip was the first-ever vertically folding smartphone to come from Samsung. It rocks some familiar Samsung design elements we've all come to love but in a new folding form factor. Touting 256GB of onboard storage, 8GB of RAM, a 3,300mAh battery, and 6.7-inch 2,636 x 1,080 folding glass display, it may not have top-tier specs, but it should offer a top-tier folding experience.
