You can get $125 off the Galaxy Z Flip 5G if you trade in your old flip phone

Flip phones were among the most popular phone form factors just over a decade ago, but interest waned as smartphones with large touchscreens became the dominant form factor. But the form factor has made a comeback thanks to Samsung and Motorola offering flipping Android phones with foldable screens.

Now, Samsung has announced a Flip Your Flip promotion in the US (h/t: GSMArena), where customers can trade in their old flip phone and receive $125 off the Galaxy Z Flip 5G. That means you’ll be spending $1,074.99 on the new foldable flip phone instead of $1,199.99. So it’s not a huge price difference in the grand scheme of things but still notable.

You’ll actually be getting a better deal than trading in a Galaxy S7 ($50), Galaxy S8 ($75), Galaxy S9 ($100), and last year’s Galaxy A51 5G ($100). So it’s definitely worth considering if you’re in the market for the foldable device and have a working, old-school flip phone in a drawer somewhere.

There’s no word on which devices Samsung is actually accepting, but the firm’s eligibility requirements state that it should function normally, should be factory reset before it’s traded in, shouldn’t have any cracks on the screen and camera lenses, and isn’t on a banned list.
