TL;DR
  • Samsung reports a 45% increase in Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Z Fold 8 Ultra sales across Europe compared to last year’s Z Fold 7.
  • Google searches for Samsung foldables surged by over 260% in September, with a whopping 460% spike during September 6-12.
  • Apple’s September 9 iPhone Duo launch event coincided with the search spike, suggesting Samsung could be benefiting from the buzz surrounding Apple’s first foldable.

Samsung’s latest Z8 lineup is its most stacked yet. Not only is there the clamshell Z Flip 8, but there are also two book-style foldables to choose from: the passport-sized wide-screen Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the more-traditional Z Fold 8 Ultra. We’ve reported before that splitting the book-style segment into two has paid off for Samsung, and now official figures back it up.

In a new announcement, Samsung revealed that sales for the new book-style foldables have increased by 45% across Europe in the nine weeks following their August 7 launch. That stat was derived by comparing the sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 over an equivalent nine-week period in 2025.

That’s a pretty substantial jump, especially considering how these aren’t necessarily affordable devices. Of course, there’s the caveat that Samsung is comparing the combined sales of two foldables to a single model from last year, but that shouldn’t take much away from the new figures, especially since buyers had only one book-style Samsung option last year.

More interestingly, Samsung is also building on the figures shared by Richard Chang, the company’s UK Corporate Vice President. According to the company, Google searches for the new foldables increased by over 260% in September, with the biggest spike observed during the week of September 6-12. During that period, searches for the new foldables reportedly surged by a whopping 460% (when compared to the previous week).

In one of our previous reports, we referred to this sudden uptick as the Apple marketing boost. The idea is simple: even though Samsung has been making (and perfecting) foldables for a while now, Apple’s entry into the market has definitely generated extra buzz. Those who’ve never really cared about foldables are now in awe of what the form factor can offer, and thanks to the iPhone Duo, foldables are finally “cool” now.

Apple’s September 9 hardware event landed right in the middle of the September 6-12 spike period, lending credence to the idea that all the buzz surrounding Apple’s first foldable may also have sent curious buyers looking at alternatives. Samsung, with years of foldable experience, would top that list of alternatives.

Add to that the fact that the Z Fold 8 costs less than the iPhone Duo, and it’s not hard to see why someone interested in Apple’s first foldable would end up considering the Z Fold 8. That’s not to say that Samsung’s foldables don’t have merits of their own, but that’s something we’ve already discussed at length. And the Z Fold 8 still remains the top choice for most of you.

The iPhone Duo hits store shelves tomorrow, October 23. It’ll be interesting to see if Samsung can keep the sales momentum once the Duo actually starts landing.
