Samsung's upcoming AirPods Max rival leaks again, painting a clear picture of its features

It’s been a decade since Samsung produced over-ear headphones under the Level branding. We’ve recently stumbled across references to a Galaxy H1 model, supposedly marking the company’s comeback in the over-ear audio segment. A new leak now gives us a clearer picture of these upcoming Galaxy headphones, along with some of their features.

By reviewing code in an unspecified APK, SammyGuru identified multiple strings and an illustration of the upcoming headphones, which clearly shows an over-ear design. Additionally, we’re learning that the Galaxy H1 could share some features with Samsung’s most recent earbuds, including Conversation mode, which automatically switches the headphones to Ambient Sound mode when it detects you speaking.

This may be paired with a user-customizable timer that lets you set how long the headphones wait before switching from Ambient Sound mode. Users should also be able to exit Conversation mode manually by tapping the dedicated touch panel located on the right earcup, per SammyGuru’s reporting.

Speaking of the earcups, the potential AirPods Max rival will reportedly separate the physical and touch-sensitive controls between the left and right earcups. A noise-control button (possibly alongside others) is supposedly located on the bottom of the left earcup, while the touch-sensitive panel for media control and other actions is on the right earcup.

Some uncovered text reveals that users can select at least two noise control modes from the left earcup, and that double-pressing this button can also reportedly switch to Ambient Sound mode and reduce volume.

Other evidence spotted by the publication suggests features like 360 Audio, which tracks your head and adjusts the audio accordingly, will also be present. However, not all Galaxy Buds 4 Pro features will be carried over, as head gestures appear to be absent. This functionality on Samsung’s earbuds lets users control functions like answering/rejecting an incoming call or dismissing an alert with a simple head gesture.

Some battery features have also been revealed

Samsung’s upcoming wireless headphones will supposedly offer an array of battery management options, including auto-turn-off features.

In addition to letting users set the headphones to turn off after 30 minutes, one hour, or two hours, the Galaxy H1 may also shut off after 30 minutes, as long as ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) is disabled. Unfortunately, there’s no additional information on the battery itself, including how long it can run on a full charge.

Lastly, SammyGuru has uncovered evidence of USB support, but it’s too soon to tell whether that includes USB playback. The code the site surfaced shows only a basic USB connection message and the ability to reconnect over Bluetooth, but not much else.

Given how long it’s been since we saw Samsung’s last over-ear headphones, we’re curious to see the Galaxy H1 in action. Expect future leaks to shed more light on these upcoming wireless headphones.

There’s currently no information on when the H1 will hit the market, but the company could reveal it alongside the open-ear Galaxy Buds On, which is expected to arrive sometime in Q4.

The over-ear form factor, coupled with the features Samsung’s upcoming offering is expected to pack, makes it clear that the manufacturer is aiming directly at wireless headphones from brands like Apple, Bose, and Sony. As with most premium headphones, pricing will be crucial for the Galaxy H1’s success.
