Samsung wants an S Pen slot on its future foldables
- Samsung is reportedly aiming to bring an S Pen slot to its future foldables.
- The company listed this as one of several challenges in a meeting with suppliers.
- Other hurdles to address include thinner and lighter designs, better cameras, and a smaller crease.
Samsung brought an S Pen slot to the Galaxy S series for the first time with the Galaxy S22 Ultra earlier this year. Unfortunately for fans of the stylus pen, Samsung didn’t bring the slot to the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
Now, Samsung has held a foldable phone strategy meeting with suppliers (h/t: The Elec and SamMobile), where it confirmed that a dedicated S Pen slot is one of several challenges that need to be addressed to make foldables more popular.
Other challenges raised by Samsung include making the phones lighter and thinner, making them more durable, reducing the size of the display crease, and improving the cameras.
Interestingly enough, The Elec also shed some light on what could’ve been for the current Fold model. The outlet claimed that Samsung originally wanted an S Pen slot on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 — this evidently didn’t happen. It also claimed that Samsung wanted “more high-end camera modules,” but that these plans were canceled due to thickness and weight considerations.
Nevertheless, we’re sure there are loads of people who want to see an S Pen slot on a future Galaxy Z Fold series variant. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and 4 already support the S Pen and offer a bigger canvas than the S22 Ultra, so a dedicated slot seems like the logical next step for maximum convenience.
