  • Samsung is discontinuing its Samsung Sound app just a few months after launching it for Android and iOS.
  • The app will be integrated into SmartThings, which already offers setup and control features for Samsung soundbars and Wi-Fi speakers.
  • Samsung Sound will continue to work until March 31, 2027, after which users will need to use SmartThings.

Samsung is already preparing to pull the plug on its Samsung Sound app, just a few months after launching it on Android and iOS.

The app was introduced as a dedicated way to set up and control Samsung’s Wi-Fi speakers and soundbars. However, the company already offered much of the same functionality through its SmartThings app.

Samsung Sound did bring a redesigned interface, but it also reportedly launched without some of the controls available in SmartThings. These included IP control, Auto Power Off, and a shortcut for Tap Sound. The app also didn’t provide a straightforward way to turn a soundbar off once it was switched on. The power button would disappear from the app after the soundbar was turned on.

Now, Samsung seems to have decided that maintaining this separate app isn’t worth it.

The latest Samsung Sound update displays a notice informing users that the app is being discontinued and integrated into SmartThings. Samsung says users simply need to register their sound device in the SmartThings app to continue using their existing settings.

“To provide a more convenient and unified experience, the Samsung Sound app is being integrated into SmartThings,” the notice reads.

Samsung says the Samsung Sound app will remain available until March 31, 2027, after which users will need to use SmartThings to set up and control their compatible Samsung sound devices.
