Poll: What do you think of Samsung dropping Tizen for Wear OS?
Samsung and Google made a pretty big announcement at the Google I/O conference yesterday, when the duo confirmed that they’d be working together on Wear OS. It’s a pretty surprising announcement on one level because Samsung has its own competing smartwatch platform in Tizen.
The Korean company will switch to Wear OS on new smartwatches as part of the deal, although it’ll still be delivering up to three years of updates to its Tizen watches. What do you make of Samsung dropping its own platform for Wear OS though? Let us know via the poll below.
What do you think of Samsung dropping Tizen for Wear OS?
Even though Google has largely neglected Wear OS for a few years now, the platform does enjoy the benefit of better third-party support compared to Tizen. But watches powered by Samsung’s platform generally have a reputation for delivering more frequent updates, more polished software, and plenty of features. In fact, we called the Galaxy Watch 3 the best smartwatch for Android users.
Google did however make plenty of promises for Wear OS yesterday, including offline music support via Spotify and YouTube Music (finally), faster system performance, and longer endurance. The search giant is certainly saying the right things, but we hope both parties deliver in this regard for the good of the smartwatch segment.
