Update, February 5, 2019 (11:55AM EST): You can now download Revolve8, Sega’s new real-time strategy mobile game.

Downloading the game costs nothing, but in-app purchases go up to $79.99 for each item. The game doesn’t feature advertisements, so there’s that.

Players also received a long list of pre-registration rewards, though most of them are only available as players reach new league levels.

The rewards might not be enough to ignore the lag and connection issues that some players experienced. That said, the issues are to be expected due to the game’s global launch today.

Original article, December 27, 2018 (5:34PM EST): Sega has just announced that pre-registration is now open for its upcoming Revolve8 game on the Play Store.

Revolve8 is a real-time strategy game that takes place in the fictional world of Imago. This is a world of folklore and fairy tales, so expect to see reimagined versions of Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Sinbad, Snow White, and many others.

Wars are fought every 100 years in Imago, where the victors can rewrite their stories and become famous. You fight these battles with a deck of eight cards, which contain different classes and skills with various effects and weaknesses.

You only have three minutes to destroy your opponent’s tower. That may not seem like that much time, but the real-time nature of the game should allow players to get the job done.

Even more exciting are some of the names attached to Revolve8. Senior producer Masayoshi Kikuchi previously worked on the Yakuza series, while character designer Koji Igarashi is known for his work on the Castlevania series. Lastly, sound producer Yasunori Mitsuda previously worked on Chrono Trigger and Xenogears.

Revolve8 will first launch January 17 in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Malaysia, The Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Konh, and Macao. The game then makes its way to Japan on Jan. 22. Finally, the game will launch Feb. 5 in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, the U.K., France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Turkey, South Africa, and more.

From what we can gather, Revolve8 is a free-to-play game. We don’t know what the in-app purchases look like, but the seeming lack of an in-game energy meter is encouraging.
