Shows like Extraordinary Attorney Woo: Here are the best ones to check out
Earlier this year on Netflix, a new drama series from South Korea quietly became one of the streaming service’s biggest hits. It’s called Extraordinary Attorney Woo, and the show quickly went to number one (for number of hours viewed) on Netflix’s global non-English TV shows. It has remained in the top 10 on that list for 17 straight weeks.
While the show has not quite become the global phenomenon that another Korean show, Squid Game, became in 2021, Extraordinary Attorney Woo still has a large following around the world. It even popped up in the US Netflix top 10 list for a couple of weeks. If you have watched the show, you may want to check out some other shows that are similar to it. We have several suggestions for you to stream after you check out Extraordinary Attorney Woo. You can sign up for Netflix at the link below
What is Extraordinary Attorney Woo?
The show stars Park Eun-bin as Woo Young-woo. In the show, Woo has just joined a major South Korean law firm as a young lawyer. She also happens to have autism. While her condition may make for some awkward communication between herself, her fellow lawyers at the firm, and her clients, Woo uses her intelligence and her photographic memory to help win cases. You can stream the first season of 16 episodes on Netflix. A second season has been commissioned, but it won’t go live until sometime in 2024.

The Good Doctor
In discussing shows like Extraordinary Attorney Woo, you have to mention The Good Doctor first. Indeed, the original version of this long-running ABC show also launched in South Korea. In the US version, Freddie Highmore plays Doctor Shaun Murphy, a surgeon who suffers from autism. Like Woo Young-woo, Dr. Murphy has many awkward moments with his fellow doctors and patients in his San Jose-based hospital, However, he’s able to overcome his condition and, combined with his savant abilities, is becoming a great doctor. You can watch all seasons of the show on Hulu.
Atypical
The subject of autism is becoming more and more mainstream in today’s culture. That’s the premise of this Netflix comedy-drama. Keir Gilchrist plays Sam Gardner, a young adult on the autism spectrum that is learning about growing up, thanks to some help from his family and friends. You can follow along on his journey with all four seasons of the show right now.
Boston Legal
When the subject of quirky TV lawyers comes up, the name Denny Crane must be mentioned. William Shatner’s Emmy-winning performance on this ABC legal dramedy remains highly entertaining. Like Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Boston Legal showcases Denny as a lawyer who can be abrupt and somewhat direct. He’s also suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease, but that doesn’t stop him from attending court and winning cases with his own style. You can check out Denny Crane and the other cast members of Boston Legal’s five seasons on Amazon Prime Video.
Eli Stone
This short-lived ABC legal drama is still worth checking out. Unlike the main character in Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Eli Stone (Jonny Lee Miller) is just a typical high-end lawyer. There’s just one problem. He frequently suffers from what seems to be hallucinations that, at the time they are happening, seem like they are real. Is Stone having some medical issues with his brain, or is he getting these visions from a higher source? You can watch his journey of enlightenment on Hulu.
Suits
Nowadays, when people refer to this former USA Network show, it’s because Meghan Markle was a cast member who met Prince Harry during her time on the show. However, many people forget about the initial premise of this legal drama. It starred Patrick J. Adams, a college dropout who uses his eidetic memory to pose as a young lawyer in a major firm. His secret is kept by a real lawyer, Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), because Ross’ abilities could be helpful in winning cases. You can watch all nine seasons of the show on Peacock.
Ally McBeal
When this legal dramedy debuted on Fox over two decades ago, it was an instant hit. That’s due in part to the fact that while this show is technically set in a legal firm, it’s really about all the romantic entanglements that young lawyer Ally (Calista Flockhart) has to deal with. The show also frequently shows us Ally’s very vivid fantasies in her head, and her dance with the digitally created “internet baby” became one of the earliest memes. You can check out the entire series on Hulu.
Monk
The main character in Extraordinary Attorney Woo has to overcome her autism while at the same time using it to help win legal cases. In the case of Adrian Monk (Tony Shalob), the former police detective suffers from an extreme case of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). He sometimes can’t even venture outside his home. However, his keen mind and observational skills, sometimes augmented by his OCD, help him crack murder cases when the San Francisco PD calls on his help. You can check out this Emmy-winning show on Amazon Prime Video.
That’s just seven shows like Extraordinary Attorney Woo you can check out, but we will expand this post with even more shows in the coming months.
