The new series repeats many of the familiar beats of the novel and earlier film, though with a few crucial differences. Still set in Louisiana, the show is set in the early 1900s. That means it does away with the original’s slavery subplot. By recasting Louis, one of the protagonists, as a Black man, the series tweak’s certain social dynamics and explores interesting facets of vampirism through history.
