Ever wanted a live wallpaper of your home city? Now you can get one thanks to Skyline – Live Wallpaper With Global 3D Terrain, an Android wallpaper app mimics the style of Pixel live wallpaper with real locations.

The app was developed by indie developer Justin Fincher and it’s based on the open-source mapping platform Mapbox. After installing the app, you simply enter an address to get a pseudo-satellite view of that location, which you can then set as your background. Skyline also includes parallax scrolling and theme color changes based on the color of the terrain in the image (Android 8.1 Oreo only).

In my experience, the parallax effect was only very minor, as was the “scene shifting” animation touted on the apps Google Play Store page. And, of course, it’s not a real-time image of a location that you’re viewing. Still, it’s a neat idea and Fincher said more is to come from the app in future—he’s currently working on automatic terrain changes based on current location.

Skyline – Live Wallpaper With Global 3D Terrain is available in the Google Play Store now for $1.99. Check it out via the link below.
