Xperia Stream launched: A full-featured cooling system
- Sony has announced the Xperia Stream accessory for the Xperia 1 IV.
- This is a cooling accessory that also comes with a variety of ports.
- There’s no word on pricing or availability just yet.
Sony revealed last week that it would be hosting an Xperia-focused gaming event on September 12, and we wondered whether we’d see a gaming accessory or phone on the day. Now, the day has come and it turns out that the big announcement was the Xperia Stream.
The Xperia Stream is a cooling system and streaming platform for the Sony Xperia 1 IV, being powered by the phone’s USB-C port and fitting onto the handset like a case.
The cooling system consists of a fan, with users also able to control the fan’s speed via a Game Enhancer utility. The fan is definitely needed as we noted in our Xperia 1 IV review that the phone had extremely poor sustained performance.
Sony’s new device is also equipped with four ports at the bottom, namely a 3.5mm port, HDMI output, Ethernet port, and USB-C port. This means you can easily play via a monitor or TV while still keeping the phone charged, although the video output tops out at 1080p/120Hz.
There’s no word on Xperia Stream pricing or availability just yet, but we’re guessing it won’t be cheap given the price of Sony’s 2022 flagship phones. Furthermore, Sony hasn’t mentioned whether it’ll launch a version for the Xperia 5 IV. In any event, an official website listing points to Sony selling a bundle featuring the Xperia Stream and the Xperia 1 IV.
