Best Google Fi Wireless plans for 2025: Pricing, phone options, and more
Published onApril 25, 2025

Google boasts a successful line of Pixel phones and plenty of other great mobile and smart hardware. Why not let it manage your mobile coverage? Google Fi is unique among prepaid carriers, supports an impressive list of phones, and feels more like a traditional carrier in many ways. If you want an alternative to the Big Three that’s all about flexibility, it just might be the way to go.
Google Fi’s plans fall into two basic categories, so we’ll cover them both in our breakdown. We’ll also touch on the long list of devices you can bring to the network from OEMs worldwide. Although Google Fi is an MVNO already, we’ll also mention a few of its top competitors to give you a bigger picture. Ready to try the carrier made by Google? Let’s get to it.
The best Google Fi Wireless plans at a glance
There are now four Google Fi plans — three with unlimited data and another where you pay as you go. Each has its perks, but it’s up to you to decide which fits your needs. Here’s a quick breakdown to help you out:
- Flexible for temporary travelers. You pay just $18 monthly (or as low as $16 per line for 5 or more lines) for unlimited talk and text, then $10 per GB used in the US and over 200 other countries. To keep your bill from getting too crazy, Google gives you free unlimited data after you’ve paid for 6GB — a bill total of $80 for one line. In most cases, long-term Google Fi users will be better off with Essentials or another unlimited plan.
- Unlimited Essentials is your most affordable unlimited experience. You’ll pay just $35 per line (or as low as $23 per line for five or more) for unlimited talk, text, and data (up to 30GB before slowed to email-only speeds). There’s really no other extras here, but this is meant to be an affordable basic experience and it seems to fit the bill well.
- Unlimited Standard is better for those who need a hotspot and more high-speed data. Not only do you get 50GB of high-speed data and 25GB of hotspot access, but you’ll also get free calls to Canada and Mexico from within the US. This plan starts at $50 per line or drops as low as $25 per line for five or more lines.
- Unlimited Premium is best for those who need more data and international perks. Starting at $65 per line or as low as $40 per line for 5 or more, you’ll get 100GB high-speed data, full free connectivity to select Pixel and Samsung watches, data within Canada and Mexico, as well as 200 other destinations. There’s even limited connectivity for tablets and laptops, 100GB of Google One storage, and 6-months of YouTube Premium included here.
Which Fi Wireless plan do we recommend?

In most cases, I recommend Google Fi Essentials over the rest of the plans here for most mainstream users. It’s not only the cheapest, but there’s really not much of a difference here between it and the Standard plan unless you regularly call people in Mexico or Canada or use more than 30GB of data a month per line.
Of course, this won’t be my recommendation for everyone. Here are a few other recommendations based on different use cases:
- If you’re looking for a secondary provider for international travel: Maybe you already have another carrier but are looking for a plan you can use internationally, but want to mostly pause or park it when you don’t need it. Google Flexible is hard to recommend for most users over Essentials as a daily driver, but as a secondary plan? It’s a nice alternative.
- If you regularly travel internationally: Those who travel internationally on a regular basis will benefit from switching to Google Fi’s Unlimited Premium plan.
- If you don’t travel but have friends and family in Mexico or Canada: In this case, we’d upgrade from Google Fi Essentials to Fi Standard. You’ll also get 20GB more data per line each month.
- If you use a lot of data: If you utilize a lot of mobile data, you’ll find Google Fi Premium is the best choice as you’ll get 100GB of data.
Another big thing to remember about Google Fi? It gives you the same high-priority data as you’d get with T-Mobile’s mid-tier plans and higher. While I’ve yet to get any firm data on this, this higher priority also seems to apply to the new Google Fi Essentials plan. That’s a big distinction from the entry-level plans you find on AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile directly as all three carriers provide lower priority data on these cheaper plans.
Google Fi vs the competition

The best way to choose your next carrier is to stack all of your options in a head-to-head showdown. Of course, it’s only fair to compare Google Fi to some of the other top prepaid plans on the market. We’ve grabbed our favorite options from the Big Three — one each on Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
Mint Mobile
First up is Mint Mobile. Originally owned by Ryan Reynolds — yes, that one — it’s now a subsidiary of T-Mobile. Mint offers an unlimited plan for as low as $30 a month, or you can get 15GB of 4G LTE or 5G access from just $ 15 per month. The catch is you’ll have to pay for all twelve months up front for the best rates.
International calling to Mexico and Canada is baked in here as well, and you get unlimited data.
Instead of snagging an extra fee for your SIM card, Mint will send you a versatile option that you can punch into any of three sizes. The lack of bonus perks and streaming options is a bummer, but Mint is an affordable option on the T-Mobile network.
Keep in mind that Mint Mobile has lower data priority than Google Fi, as the latter uses the same speeds you’ll find with T-Mobie’s postpaid mid-tier or higher plans.
Highlights:
- Up to unlimited 4G LTE or 5G data per month
- Calling included to Mexico and Canada
- No throttling, truly unlimited data

Visible
Visible is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Verizon, which means you get a massive nationwide network without the costs often associated with Big Red. It keeps your plan options even easier than Google Fi because there’s only one. You’ll get unlimited talk, text, and data for as low as $25 per month for Visible Basic or as high as $45 per month for Visible Plus Pro. While all three have unlimited data, the latter plan gives you unlimited premium data on Verizon’s network and 4k UHD streaming.
Looking to save even more? Visible also has annual plans that over between $25-$45 in savings. It’s not much, but every penny counts, right?
Highlights:
- Unlimited talk, text, and truly unlimited data
- High priority access is optional
- Pay as little as $25 per month

Cricket Wireless
The last competitor, Cricket Wireless, relies on AT&T as an owned MVNO. Although part of the AT&T umbrella, Cricket acts like its own network, offering various plans and add-ons to make the most of your service. The best — and most expensive — plan you can get is Cricket’s Unlimited Plus plan for $60 per month per line (or as low as $32.50 per line for four or more).
You’ll get unlimited high-speed data on AT&T’s network alongside 15GB of hotspot capability, 150 cloud storage, and unlimited texting to 37 additional countries from within the US. There’s even Max with Ads, which is funny considering AT&T’s postpaid plans don’t even offer streaming perks.
- Free usage in Canada and Mexico
- Free international calling with the US to 37 countries
- Max with Ads

How good is Google Fi wireless network coverage?

As you might expect from the tech giant, coverage on Google Fi is solid. It primarily runs on T-Mobile’s network, with extensive 5G coverage across the US and 4G LTE almost everywhere. Unlike every other T-Mobile-based prepaid provider, Google Fi also has high-priority data access.
You’ll even get nearly flawless use on roaming networks in hundreds of countries (if your plan includes it).
Best Google Fi phones
Traditionally, only post-paid carriers offered special incentives like free phones or device financing, but there are a few prepaid options that do the same. Fi Wireless is one of those carriers. You’ll need to pass a soft credit check first, but monthly payment plans range from as little as $8 a month to as high as $50. The actual list of phones will change over time.
You can find the full list directly at Google Fi Wireless’ website, but here are a few highlighted selections worth looking at:
- Samsung Galaxy S25 series -$200 off instantly, then $300 back over $24 months
- Google Pixel 9 – $300 off instantly, additional $499 via 24 monthly bill credits
- Pixel 9a – $0 a month with 24 bill credits
Does Fi Wireless offer any special discounts?
If you’re looking for senior citizens, first responders, or military discounts, you’re unfortunately not going to find them with Fi Wireless. While some prepaid carriers offer this kind of discount, this is typically more common among postpaid plans.
Frequently asked questions
Google tends to keep the same plans for a long time. That said it last majorly overhauled its offerings in April of 2025.
Yes, all phones purchased for Fi Wireless are sold in unlocked form and can be taken to any other carrier you wish.
It does. While Google Fi doesn’t currently offer any iPhones for sale, you can bring almost any (reasonably recent) unlocked iPhone to the network.
The answer to that is subjective. Is it cheaper? In most cases, yes. If you’re looking for an alternative to the big three, Google Fi works and feels the most like a postpaid option. In fact, Flexible plan users pay for most of their bill after the month ends.
Yes! Select Samsung Galaxy, iPhone, and Pixel devices support eSIM technology on Google Fi.
Yes, all Google Fi plans support Wi-Fi calling.
Google’s Flex plan charges you $18 for talk and text, then $10 per gig. This could get out of hand fast, but Google saw that coming. Once you’ve used 6GB of data, the rest is free. As for the unlimited plans? If you blow through your high-speed cap, you’ll continue getting unlimited data at potentially slowed speeds.
