TAG Heuer launches Connected Modular 41: a less expensive, more powerful sequel
- TAG Heuer has announced the Connected Modular 41, a smaller sequel to its Modular 45 from last year.

TAG Heuer, the Swiss manufacturer of luxury accessories, has been one of the more interesting players in the Android smartwatch market. The company released the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 last year, a premium watch offering hundreds of customization options and digital-or-mechanical modules. In a press release issued yesterday, TAG Heuer has announced its successor: the Connected Modular 41.
As the name suggests, TAG Heuer is targeting a smaller wrist size this time around with a 41 mm diameter watch face—4 mm smaller than its predecessor. But dimensions aren’t the only changes in store: the Connected Modular 41 is both significantly less expensive and more powerful than the previous device too.
Beginning with the price, this gone down by a whopping $350; though, even starting at $1200, the Modular 41 is still at the premium end of the smartwatch market.
The wearable includes the luxurious build-quality you might expect from the TAG Heuer name, but it’s essentially the same as its predecessor in terms of out-of-the-box design. You can buy it with a black or silver bezel with scratch-resistant, anti-reflective, sapphire-covered glass, and it includes the same mechanism that allows the Android Wear-based module to be swapped for a Calibre 5 mechanical module.
There is once again a wealth of customization options available too, including nine new straps, as well as different lugs and bezels, which could set you back several more thousand dollars for the most expensive setup.
As for the specs, the watch comes with a 390 x 390 AMOLED display at 326 ppi, with 350 nit maximum brightness. You’ll also find 1 GB of RAM inside, with 8 GB of internal storage space—up from the 512 MB RAM and 4 GB ROM of the previous smartwatch—and an unspecified Intel processor (possibly the same as its predecessor’s—the Intel Atom Z34XX).
The Modular Connected 45 has NFC (and Google Pay support), Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi, GPS and is water-resistant up to 50 meters. Additionally, it’s compatible with Android 4.4 devices and higher, and runs Android Wear (it’s not on Oreo yet but it should get the update in future).
The watch is available now and you can view it at the TAG Heuer website, but if you want to buy one, you’ll have to locate a store.
