TCL has unveiled its latest smartphone, the TCL Stylus 5G, the company’s first phone to include a built-in stylus.
Once a common sight on smartphones and PDAs, the stylus has all but disappeared from most modern smartphones. The popularity of the remaining ones, however, is a good indication of the potential market, a market TCL is eager to tap in to with the TCL Stylus 5G.
TCL has designed the Stylus 5G to take full advantage of the phone’s stylus. The phone comes with Nebo for TCL, which the company bills as “the world’s most powerful handwriting recognition, driven by AI.” Thanks to the software, users can scribble notes and then quickly transform them into professional-looking documents with the write-to-text conversion features. Similarly, the phone includes the popular MyScript Calculator 2, allowing users to write out math calculations instead of pressing predefined buttons.
The new phone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 700 5G, a solid mid-range performer that should be sufficient for most users. The chip is combined with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Notably, unlike Google’s Pixel line, TCL’s latest phone has a microSD card slot, providing a way to expand the storage to up to 2TB.
The Stylus 5G has a 6.81-inch screen, large enough to effectively make use of the stylus. The main camera comes in at 50MP and is paired with 13MP front-facing camera. The phone’s 4,000mAh battery should provide enough juice for all-day use.
“The TCL STYLUS 5G is designed for those who live busy, productive lives and need a device that can complement it every step of the way,” said Eric Anderson, Senior Vice President and General Manager of TCL Communication in North America.
The phone is available on T-Mobile, as well as Metro by T-Mobile, and has a starting price of $258.
