The most popular Android phone of Q1 2020 wasn't a Samsung device
Q1 2020 has been the worst-ever quarter for smartphones, but a new report has given us a closer look at the top ten phone models for the period.
Canalys has revealed its list of the top ten phones for Q1 2020 by “sell-in shipments,” and it’s no surprise to see Apple occupying three spots. The base iPhone 11 was number one, followed by the iPhone 11 Pro Max at number six, and the iPhone 11 Pro at number ten. It’s no surprise to see the cheapest 2019 iPhone at number one, and we’re fully expecting the cheaper iPhone SE 2020 to occupy this spot in Q2.
The top Android phone of Q1 2020 was the $140-$200 Redmi Note 8/8T according to Canalys, occupying second place on the list. This wasn’t the only Xiaomi phone on the list, as the Redmi Note 8 Pro was in fifth place and the Redmi 8A was in ninth position. We’re not surprised to see these devices on the list, as they’re among the best budget phones of late 2019 and early 2020.
This isn’t the only good news for Xiaomi this week, as Canalys reported that the Chinese brand was now the number one company in Spain for Q1 2020. Xiaomi was also ranked third in Italy and fourth in France, illustrating its solid growth in Western Europe.
Global mobile kingpin Samsung had the most entries on this latest list though, featuring the Galaxy A51 (third), Galaxy A10s (fourth), Galaxy A20s (seventh), and Galaxy A01 (eighth). The Korean brand revitalized its mid-range offerings just over a year ago, and it looks like that momentum is continuing in Q1.
