Not only can the VLC Media Player stream videos from different sources, but it can be used as a video editing software. You can cut or trim any video files in VLC to create shorter clips by selecting a beginning and ending point while recording. Here’s how to save your favorite segments to share them with friends and family via different mediums.

How to cut a video in the VLC player
From the VLC home screen, navigate to View from the menu bar and select Advanced Controls.
You will see recording buttons appear above the normal player controls.
Play the video or scroll through to the starting point from where you want VLC to trim. Click on the round red button at the starting point or press Shift + R to start recording. Play the video or move forward one frame at a time using the Frame by Frame button for more accuracy.
After you reach the ending point, hit the record button or press Shift + R again to stop recording. VLC will save your trimmed video in your “My Videos” folder in Windows, which you can find under the C:\Users\Username\Videos folder. For other macOS, visit your documents or user folder and find the default videos folder.
