Funtouch OS 13 is here: What to know about vivo's new Android 13 skin
Funtouch OS has traditionally been the weakest link in vivo’s chain, but the company has been improving its Android skin over the last couple of years with a more stock-like look and feel.
Now, vivo has announced that stable Funtouch OS 13 is here, being based on Android 13. So how does this stand out from prior versions of the Android skin?
Funtouch OS 13 features
The company says you can expect more personalization options for starters, such as Material You’s wallpaper-based system color schemes and ability to change app icon colors based on wallpapers.
You can also expect privacy-focused features here such as improved app pinning, the ability to hide photos/videos, and Android 13’s ability to only grant an app access to specific photos.
vivo is also tweaking its iManager system manager, offering a “phone cooling” utility to shut down demanding apps with a tap. You’re also getting an air quality index card on the dashboard.
The new update brings an improved video editor as well, allowing you to mute video or tweak volume for specific segments of a clip. Finally, the company says you can expect accessibility enhancements too, specifically related to color correction/inversion and removing animations.
Funtouch OS 13: Supported devices and availability
vivo said stable Fun Touch OS 13 rolled out on October 24 for the vivo X80 Pro, and we can indeed confirm receiving the update. Unfortunately for everyone else, the company has only said the update will “gradually” come to other devices, with no specific devices or release windows mentioned.
In saying so, Vivo’s beta roadmap gives us a rough guideline of sorts. The roadmap notes that the Android 13 beta will come to devices like the X80, X70 Pro Plus, X70 Pro, X60 series, V25 Pro, V23 series, T1 family, and more before the end of the year. So it’s a good bet that these phones will receive the stable update in Q1 2023.
