vivo V11 Pro launched in India: A mid-range smartphone that goes beyond the basics
At the press event in Mumbai today, Vivo announced the launch of its new mid-range smartphone, the vivo 11 Pro, in India. The device packs in a lot of goodies for its segment, and the company brings its signature features like the in-display fingerprint sensor at a more affordable price segment – first time in its V series.
Hang on, what’s the V11 then?
Apparently, the marketing suits at vivo thought that making a convoluted mess of their branding would be an interesting experiment, so here we are. The vivo V11 Pro is the same phone launched globally as V11 without the ‘Pro’ moniker but with different internal storage on board. 64GB on the ‘Pro’ versus 128GB otherwise.
But that’s not all. We’ve heard that there will be a vivo V11 in India as well sometime soon. The difference? There’s no in-display fingerprint scanner on that one.
In-display fingerprint scanner
The vivo V11 Pro boasts of an in-display fingerprint scanner that we’ve seen on vivo X21 and vivo Nex before. It’s as reliable and quick as in those devices (vivo mentions it is the fourth-generation of the technology), although still a tad slower than fingerprint scanners on most phones.
However, this time around, vivo also packs an infrared sensor to enable face unlock – even in low light conditions.
Specifications
Vivo’s latest phone is firmly in the upper mid-range camp, offering a capable Snapdragon 660 chipset with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. Toss in a 3,400mAh battery as well, with fast charging support.
The choice of microUSB over USB Type-C is baffling for a smartphone in this price segment, and there’s no NFC as well. At least we’ve got a 3.5mm headphone jack, so your legacy audio accessories will work fine.
The vivo V11 Pro runs FunTouch OS 4.5, vivo’s proprietary UI layer over Android 8.1 Oreo.

Waterdrop Notch
There’s 6.41-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch that’s quite refreshing in the age of wide notches, now that we’ve made our peace with them. The tiny teardrop notch is unique and far less intrusive than the broad notch of the vivo V9.
The FullView display with minimum bezels allow for a 91.27% screen-to-body ratio.
Camera
Aside from the in-display fingerprint scanner, the phone’s other headline-grabbing feature is its 25MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture. vivo’s got an AI Face shaping feature to go along with it, for modeling and beautifying your face, and an improved AI Selfie Lighting mode.
At the back, there’s a dual camera setup with a wide f/1.8 aperture 12MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor. The AI branding extends to the rear cameras too, starting with AI Backlight HDR and AI Low Light options as well as AI Scene Recognition (up to 18 scenes) and AI Portrait Framing (helping the user frame their shots).
Pricing and Availability
Priced at 25,990 rupees ($362), the vivo V11 Pro is a capable mid-ranger that’s available in an interesting color variant – Starry Night Black – with a gradient purple-blue design. And there’s also a Dazzling Gold variant.
The pre-booking for the phone starts today, while the device will go on sale on September 12. Here’s our complete review of the vivo V11 Pro.
