Walmart's Android TV device promises 4K at a very low price
- Walmart has listed an unannounced Onn box with Android TV and 4K playback.
- It would offer few if any frills, but it should cost just $29.88.
- There’s no word on when it might be available.
You might soon have an easy solution if you’re looking for an Android TV box that keeps costs down. 9to5Google tipsters have spotted a listing for an Onn-branded Walmart device that would deliver Android TV and 4K playback for just $29.88 — a price that would be low for 1080p hardware like the Roku Express Plus, let alone Ultra HD hardware.
The Walmart Android TV box appears to have few if any frills, although it would support Dolby audio and come with a voice-controlled remote that includes shortcuts for streaming services like Disney Plus, HBO Max, Netflix, and YouTube (but not Amazon Prime Video, we’d add). It would take power over a micro-USB connection.

There’s no mention of when the Android TV device might ship — Walmart simply lists the product as “out of stock” as of this writing. It won’t be surprising if the company announces hardware relatively soon, though.
You may have reasons to buy pricier Android TV hardware like Google’s Chromecast with Google TV. More advanced streaming players frequently support HDR video and advanced sound formats like Dolby Atmos, and typically include faster hardware to match. You certainly won’t be using the Walmart Android TV box for gaming like you would NVIDIA’s Shield TV. However, those may be overkill if your TV doesn’t support technologies like HDR, or if you simply don’t care about many extras. If that’s the case, the Onn device might be more than enough.
