WhatsApp readying ability to import chats from Android to iOS
- New screenshots show how you’ll be able to transfer WhatsApp chats from Android to iOS.
- There’s no word on a timeline for this feature, but you can already transfer chats from iOS to Android.
WhatsApp introduced the ability to transfer your chats from iOS to Android last year, allowing those switching from iPhones to quickly get their chats on their new Android phone. Unfortunately, the IM app doesn’t support transfers from Android to iOS just yet.
Now, WhatsApp watcher WABetaInfo has revealed screenshots showing how you can transfer Android chats to iOS. You can check out those screenshots below.
The screens were taken from a beta version of the iOS app (version 22.2.74) but the functionality isn’t available just yet. Nevertheless, it shows that the function requires a user’s permission to restore their chats.
The image also contains a line that makes us wonder whether you can only restore chats after first setting up WhatsApp on your iPhone (i.e. you can’t use WhatsApp on your iPhone and then later decide to import your Android chats).
In any event, there’s no word on when this feature will launch or how it will work just yet. But we hope it’s as streamlined as transferring chats from iOS to Android 12.
