This upcoming wide-screen slab phone could pack not one, but two 200MP cameras

- Oppo is reportedly developing a wide-screen, non-folding smartphone, potentially following Huawei’s Pura X View.
- The device could feature a 6.35-inch 120Hz display, a Dimensity 9000-series chip, and two 200MP cameras.
- Two leaks disagree on its positioning, with one pointing to a mid-range Reno device and the other suggesting a pricey flagship.
Huawei might have started a trend with its Pura X View. The Chinese tech giant unveiled the device last month, and we were surprised to see its unconventional, passport-like wide form factor. It’s like the Galaxy Z Fold 8 or the iPhone Duo, albeit without the folding mechanism. Now, it looks like other manufacturers are taking notice.
Oppo is also reportedly working on a wide-screen non-folding phone, but this one might fall in the mid-range category. Information about the development has surfaced in two separate leaks highlighted by the folks at AndroidHeadlines.
The first leak comes via tipster Gadgetsdata on X, who suggests the upcoming device will be part of the company’s Reno series. Oppo’s Reno phones are mid-range offerings, so this wide-screen device might not be as expensive as the Oppo Find series.
The leak also points to the device sporting a 6.35-inch 120Hz flat display with a 16:9 or a 16:10 aspect ratio. It could rock a metal frame on the outside and a Dimensity 9000 Series SoC on the inside. Similar to the Pura X View, Oppo’s wide offering could also make full use of the extra horizontal space with three rear cameras. These would reportedly include a 200MP main lens, a 50MP ultrawide sensor, and a 200MP periscope telephoto.
Those are top-of-the-line camera specs for a mid-range device, and that’s precisely why this second leak makes sense. It comes via the reliable Digital Chat Station on Weibo. According to the leak, the device will feature a 16:9 aspect ratio and “an ultra-narrow four-sided equal-sided design.” More interestingly, the tipster wrote, in a comment reply, that the phone will be positioned as a flagship device, and that it “definitely won’t be cheap.”
That’s the only main detail the two leaks seem to disagree on. The two tipsters could be talking about the same device, with some confusion surrounding its branding and market positioning. Alternatively, it could also be that Oppo is working on two separate wide-screen slab phones.
Oppo hasn’t shared any information about such a device yet. And even if the leaks turn out to be accurate, there’s no confirmation of whether the phone(s) will ever be available outside China.
