TL;DR
  • XGIMI has opened Kickstarter orders for the Aura 3 Pro and Max ultra-short-throw projectors.
  • The Aura 3 Pro is available for $2,199, and the Aura 3 Max is available for $2,399.
  • XGIMI is also offering projector and screen bundles starting at $3,699.

After opening US reservations for its new Aura 3 ultra-short-throw (UST) projectors earlier this month, XGIMI has finally opened Kickstarter orders for them. You can now put down your cash on one of the two Aura 3 models: the Aura 3 Pro or the Aura 3 Max.

The Aura 3 Pro will cost $2,199 if you order now on Kickstarter, while the Aura 3 Max will cost $2,399. These are special Kickstarter prices, and XGIMI lists eventual MSRPs of $3,999 and $4,999 for the Pro and Max, respectively.

Both Google TV projectors use RGB triple-laser projection and support 4K playback at 120Hz. They also feature a dual dynamic iris light path for better brightness and contrast. A dual-iris light path uses two apertures within the projector to better control the amount of light projected. This can help with deeper blacks and more detailed highlights. The Aura 3 Max reaches up to 5,700 lumens with an 8,000:1 contrast ratio, while the more affordable Aura 3 Pro reaches up to 4,100 lumens with a 7,000:1 contrast ratio.

Those are impressive numbers when compared with other Google TV projectors, most of which top out at around 1,000 to 2,000 lumens. Even UST projectors, which usually offer higher brightness, typically top out at 3,000 lumens. In fact, XGIMI’s Aura 2 was also rated at 2,300 lumens. The Aura 3’s impressive brightness and contrast should ideally deliver great picture quality, even in rooms that aren’t pitch dark.

The projectors come with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support. Thanks to Google TV support, you’ll get built-in apps like Netflix, YouTube, and Prime Video. You’ll also get access to the Play Store so you can download Android apps and games directly on the projector. The Aura 3 series also includes 80W Harman Kardon speakers, Cinematic 3D mode, and two pairs of 3D glasses.

Both XGIMI projectors also support variable refresh rate (VRR), auto low-latency mode (ALLM), and FreeSync Premium. In fact, the Aura 3 Pro and Max promises 1ms latency, so you can play games on a huge 120-inch screen without any noticeable input lag.

XGIMI’s Kickstarter campaign also offers several bundles pairing the projector with screen options:

  • Aura 3 Max + 120-inch XGIMI Ascend UST: $4,999
  • Aura 3 Max + 100-inch XGIMI Ascend UST: $4,299
  • Aura 3 Max + 120-inch Fresnel ALR Screen: $3,699
  • Aura 3 Max + 120-inch Black Grid ALR Screen: $3,999
  • Aura 3 Max + 140- or 150-inch Fresnel ALR Screen: $5,799

You can order the Aura 3 UST projectors on Kickstarter right now, with deliveries expected to begin in December.
